Suspects arrested for attempted robbery in Observatory

Members of the public alerted patrolling law enforcement officers to an attempted street robbery in the Observatory area on Monday, resulting in the arrest of four individuals.

City Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason confirmed that the informant provided a description of both the suspects and their vehicle.

“The officers spotted the vehicle and brought it to a stop. Upon arrival at Woodstock Police Station, the suspects were confirmed to be wanted in connection with a robbery case that had already been opened, and they were arrested on that case number,” he added.

Dyason said the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigating officer will conduct a thorough investigation and may link the suspects to additional robberies in the Observatory and Mowbray areas.

“The investigating officer will also conduct an ID parade with other robbery complainants in the area. The suspects’ vehicle will be booked in at Bellville Police Pound for being used in the commission of a crime,” he added.
