Ramaphosa Urges Tougher Action on Corruption Ahead of 2026 Elections

By Rachel Mohamed

President Cyril Ramaphosa has called for stronger measures against corruption following the Special Investigating Unit’s (SIU) report on Tembisa Hospital, which revealed that syndicates and officials looted over R2 billion. The President emphasized the need to restore the ANC’s credibility ahead of the 2026 local government elections and strengthen governance and service delivery.

Speaking on VOC News, Political analyst Dr. Shingai Mangiza Mutiza described the state of corruption as deeply troubling.

Since Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s allegations of political interference in the justice system, several high-profile cases have emerged, including the Tembisa Hospital scandal.

“However, it is important to assess corruption objectively, considering both its impact and prevalence. My intention is not to condone corruption, but rather to promote careful and honest evaluation,” said Dr. Mutiza.

He added, “Corruption is a major issue, but it is not unique to South Africa. It is a widespread global phenomenon that necessitates thorough investigation and analysis.”
