Archbishop Emeritus, Njongonkulu Ndungane has added his voice to the list of high-profile people calling for the resignation of National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) head, Shaun Abrahams.
This follows the NPA’s withdrawal of fraud charges against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and two former SARS employees.
In a statement, Ndungane says Abrahams must resign or be dismissed for his own good and as a lesson to others not to take advantage of South Africa’s hard-won freedom.
The South African Communist Party (SACP) has meanwhile called on parliament to hold an urgent inquiry into the fitness of the Abrahams to hold office.
The SACP says from the onset, the charges against Gordhan were politically motivated saying this was a clear abuse of state institutions to settle political battles.
