Police Commissioner: PKTT Exposed Syndicates Protected by Senior Officers

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola has revealed that the political killings task team uncovered powerful crime syndicates operating under the protection of senior police officials.

Testifying as the second witness before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry at the Brigitte Mabandla Justice College in Pretoria, Masemola said the unit’s investigations exposed deep-rooted corruption within law enforcement and revealed how organised criminal networks were linked to political murders.

He stressed that the task team had played a critical role in unmasking the masterminds behind targeted killings.

“There is no room for corruption whatsoever because everyone in the team will know exactly where we are and where we are going. So, there is no way you can do something untoward that the team doesn’t want. It’s easy—if you go off track, the way they work, they will be able to pick it up very quickly,” said Masemola.

The revelations are expected to intensify scrutiny of the police’s ability to root out internal corruption while addressing politically motivated killings across the country.
