NSFAS Applications for 2026 Academic Year Open with New Digital System

Higher Education and Training Minister Buti Manamela has announced that applications for the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) for the 2026 academic year will open on Tuesday (16 September), introducing a new simplified digital platform.

Speaking to the media, Manamela said the revamped system is designed to expedite approvals and minimise errors, making it easier for students to apply online.

He emphasised that the process comes with a stricter deadline to ensure all applications are finalised before classes begin.

“When we speak of readiness for the 2026 academic year, we are not referring to ticking boxes or filling reports. Readiness is about the lived experience of every student and family in South Africa, that when the new year begins, the doors of learning and culture shall truly open, fairly, on time, and without delay,” Manamela said.

Students will be able to apply via the myNSFAS portal, track their applications, upload supporting documents, and receive real-time updates.

“We call on all stakeholders to assist learners in applying before the deadline.”

The minister called on all stakeholders to assist learners in submitting applications before the 15th of November deadline.
