Iran sceptical about ceasefire with Israel

Iran has expressed deep scepticism over the sustainability of the US-brokered ceasefire with Israel, following a deadly 12-day conflict that resulted in significant casualties on both sides. Iran’s top military official warned that the country is prepared to deliver a strong response if Israel resumes its attacks.

This warning comes after a rare phone call between Iran’s Chief of Staff and Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister, raising concerns about escalating regional tensions and the future of Iran-Israel relations.

Executive Member of the Media Review Network, Professor Ahmed Jazbhay, says Iran’s doubts are not unfounded. “It’s with good reason that Iran is rather sceptical of the current ceasefire on the part of the Zionist entity as well as its handler, the United States of America,” he said.

Jazbhay added, “We know the ceasefire is deeply unpopular within Israeli society and also within the lobby in Washington, D.C.”

He further noted that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s public rebuke of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, telling him to “turn his pilots back”, only intensified divisions. “The lobby is not happy with Trump for scolding Netanyahu so openly,” he said.
