Firearm Suspects Nabbed After Failed Robbery in Khayelitsha

Two suspects, aged 36 and 43, were arrested in Khayelitsha on Monday, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“Members of the Maitland Flying Squad were patrolling in the area when they were approached by a complainant who had just escaped an attempted robbery on Mew Way bridge,” said Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie. “The complainant gave a detailed description of the suspects’ clothing, which helped officers locate them.”

The suspects were found on the N2 off-ramp from Mew Way. “Upon noticing the officers, they attempted to flee but were quickly apprehended. A pistol containing two rounds of ammunition was discovered during the search,” Pojie confirmed.

Both suspects were arrested and detained at Khayelitsha SAPS. “They are expected to appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ Court once they have been formally charged,” added Pojie. The investigation is ongoing.
