COCT Convenes Urgent Meeting Amid Escalating Taxi Violence

The City of Cape Town (COCT) has announced that an urgent Mini-Bus Taxi Task Team meeting will take place on Thursday in response to a spate of deadly taxi-related violence that has gripped parts of the metro.

This after at least seven people were shot and fatally wounded in Langa and Mfuleni. The violence has raised serious concerns over the safety of commuters and the stability of the mini-bus taxi industry in the region.

Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Rob Quintas, confirmed that high-density patrols have been deployed in hotspot areas to help restore order and prevent further bloodshed.

“We will be meeting with national and regional SANTACO leadership and our colleagues in the Western Cape government. The city calls for calm as the process unfolds and as we work collectively to restore peace within the taxi sectors,” he added.
