Cape attorney gunned down

A Cape Town attorney was killed in a drive-by shooting outside his home in Burwood road in Rondebosch East at about 10pm on Monday night. According to reports, Noordien Hassan was shot through a car window while standing outside his premises. Neighbours reportedly heard several shots being fired. Suspects fled the scene in Toyota double cab bakkie. He was rushed to hospital where he died an hour later.  Western Cape police have confirmed that a murder is being investigated.

“A 45 year old man was shot and killed last night at around 22:05 in Burwood Road Lansdowne by an unknown suspect who is yet to be arrested. The motive for the murder is yet to be established,” said police spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana.

VOC News spoke to the victim’s brother Yaseen Hassen, who was not prepared to comment. He said the family were arranging the janaaza.

Noordien is one of the brothers of Hassan Brothers Superette, a family owned retail store.

Two years ago, a bomb detonated at Hassan’s Lansdowne home causing damage to the front of the house. A case of arson was investigated but police have not made any arrests.
