Houthis Warn Airlines After Strike on Saudi Airport

Escalating tensions in the Middle East have spread to the Arabian Peninsula after the Supreme Political Council-led Yemeni Armed Forces claimed responsibility for missile and drone strikes targeting Saudi Arabia’s Abha International Airport.

Ansar Allah say the attack was carried out in retaliation for a strike on Sanaa International Airport. While Yemen’s internationally recognised government has claimed responsibility for the operation in Sanaa, the Houthis have accused Saudi Arabia of being behind the attack.

The group has also warned international airlines to avoid Saudi airspace, a development that has heightened concerns over regional security and the safety of civilian aviation amid the widening conflict.

To unpack the latest developments and their broader geopolitical implications, VOC News engaged with international relations analyst and Mail & Guardian columnist Donovan Williams.

VOC News reached out to Hussain al-Bukhaiti, a political commentator based in Yemen and a contributor to Press TV in Iran, for his perspective on the latest developments. Speaking from Yemen, al-Bukhaiti provided his assessment of the situation on the ground, offering insight into the rapidly evolving regional tensions and how they are being viewed from a Yemeni perspective. He discussed the implications of the recent escalation, including the reported strikes involving Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, and the broader impact on regional security.
