Preparations for June Voter Registration Weekend Are Well Advanced, says IEC

The Electoral Commission (IEC) of South Africa says preparations for the upcoming voter registration weekend on 20 and 21 June are well advanced ahead of the 2026 Local Government Elections.

Speaking at the IEC national launch in Midrand, CEO Sy Mamabolo said nearly 24,000 registration stations will open across the country to allow citizens to register and update their voting details.

Mamabolo confirmed that 800 outreach coordinators have been deployed, while more than 62,000 community events have already been conducted as part of voter mobilisation efforts.

“Preparations are well advanced, with the Department of Home Affairs ensuring that its offices will open to facilitate applications for identity documents. The tertiary institution campaign has reached 97,000 students, with 45,000 students registered,” he said.
