Dam levels in Cape Town have reached a concerning point, dropping to 55% capacity as of March 2026. This is 19% lower than the levels recorded at the same time last year.

In response, the Stellenbosch Municipality has introduced Level 2 water restrictions. Meanwhile, the City of Cape Town is urging residents to reduce water consumption and adopt responsible usage habits to help prevent similar restrictions from being implemented.

Speaking to VOC News, Mayoral Committee Member for Water and Sanitation, Zahid Badroodien, said the dams have not filled up to 100% along with hotter weather, dam levels are approximately 18% to 20% behind where we were last year.
