VOC Launches Annual Stationery Drive with Rahmaniyeh Primary School

Team VOC has officially launched its Stationery Drive for the 2026 academic year, with Rahmaniyeh Primary School located in District Six named as this year’s beneficiary.

The cherished annual campaign aims to equip learners in the local community with essential stationery, ensuring they start the school year prepared, confident, and supported. For 2026, the station will partner with Rahmaniyeh Primary School and NGO Penny Appeal to provide these much-needed supplies.

Established in 1913, Rahmaniyeh is one of the oldest Muslim state schools in the Western Cape, located in a historically significant area and playing a pivotal role in providing education despite apartheid-era challenges and forced removals. The public primary school currently serves over 530 learners from diverse backgrounds.

Speaking about the school’s rich history, Principal Ms Shireen Jaffer said:

“Our school was very well known for its rugby. Most of the Silver Tree rugby players from years gone by actually came from Rahmaniyeh. We first started on the corner of Pontiac and Nelson Street in District 6, and we withstood the apartheid regime with the forced removals. Alhamdulillah [All praise is due to God], we then moved to the old George Golding building in Constitution Street, Zonnebloem. Our school caters to learners of all religions, so although we are a secular school, we uphold an Islamic ethos. I’m very proud to say that Rahmaniyeh is the oldest Muslim secular school in the Southern Hemisphere. We are still here, still thriving, and we welcome new learners who want a strong traditional Muslim school with the WCED curriculum.”

VOC is calling on listeners and community members to support the initiative by dropping off stationery items at 2 Queens Park Avenue, Salt River.

This is a chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of learners, helping them start 2026 fully equipped for a successful school year.
