Zanele Situ wins bronze for SA

Zanele Situ has won South Africa’s eighth medal at the Paralympic Games in Rio.

She won a bronze medal in the javelin, F54 category, with a personal best throw of 17.9 metres, a personal best distance.

Situ carried the flag at the opening ceremony, and she is taking part in her fourth Paralympics.

Team South Africa have now won eight medals in all, three gold, two silver and three bronze.

The team have athletes involved in athletics, archery, para-canoeing, wheelchair tennis and para-cycling later Wednesday.

Earlier, Tyrone Pillay pushed Team South Africa’s medal tally to seven at the Rio Paralympics as he claimed bronze in Shot-Put.

Pillay threw a personal best distance of 13-point-9-1 metres, and in the process, he broke the South African and African records in the F42 category.
