Responding to the drought affected Northern Cape, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC), Darul Islam Zakah Fund and Darul Islam Relief Fund will depart for Louriesfontein to distribute food, water and clothes. Loeriesfontein is a small town in the Northern Cape, adversely affected by the ongoing drought. After delivering 50 000 litres of water to Louriesfontein in the Northern Cape three months ago, they noticed that the area required other basic needs for civilians living under impoverished conditions.

Sheikh Irfaan Abrahams will be leading the convoy which will be leaving Darul Islam masjid in Surrey Estate later this evening. Maulana Ridwan Ederies said they plan to deliver food hampers to approximately one thousand two hundred families as well as brand new clothing.

“Ramadan may have come to an end but our duty and responsibility as a Muslim must continue,” said Ederies.

However, this initiative requires the assistance of the Cape Town community for cash donations towards the purchasing of the drinking water that they will buy towards the end of their journey.

“Our intention is to at least provide each person with five litres of drinking water,” said Idris.

The distribution will commence on Saturday morning.
