Taxi violence continues to spiral out of control in Seawinds near Lavender Hill, with two people shot on Thursday morning. A father and son were killed at 6am, in an incident reported to be linked to the on-going taxi wars in the Retreat and Lavender Hill areas.

The Retreat Taxi Association said they were concerned by the high level of violence. The association’s spokesperson Basil Nagel said one of their taxis were also hijacked and set alight on Wednesday evening.

Western Cape traffic chief Kenny Africa said police, traffic and law enforcement has been beefed up in the area.

“Right now, things are under control, but it’s very tense at the moment,” he said.

Several roads were blocked off in the area and traffic had to be redirected as police stood watch in the area. VOC
