VOC’s Muharram Picnic, a day for family

On Sunday, VOC hosted its very first Muharram Picnic, where it encouraged communities to welcome the new Islamic year, 1438, in the spirit of family. The event, which was hosted at Minitown, in Melkbosstrand, was attended by a flood of families, all hoping to spend the day out in sun. VOC became the first Muslim radio station in South Africa when a special events license was granted to the station in Ramadan/January 1995. Subsequent temporary broadcast licenses were granted, permitting the station to broadcast for 24 hours.
