UCT protests prompt Portfolio Committee visit

Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training is due to visit the University of Cape Town on Thursday following the recent disturbances at the institution. Last week, seven students were arrested for unlawful protests linked to possible fee increases and demands for the release of the fees commission report. VOC became the first Muslim radio station in South Africa when a special events license was granted to the station in Ramadan/January 1995. Subsequent temporary broadcast licenses were granted, permitting the station to broadcast for 24 hours.
