Unemployment rate drops to 32.1%, but structural issues persist

South Africa's official unemployment rate has dropped by 1.4 percentage points, moving from 33.5% in the second quarter to 32.1% in the third quarter of 2024, according to Statistics SA's Quarterly Labour Force Survey. ‘WC residents have the most improved drinking water’

The Western Cape has the highest rate of universal access to improved drinking water sources in the country, says Statistics SA. At 99.4% the province is closely followed by the Free State at 99.3%, the Northern Cape at 99.1% and Gauteng at 98.6%. Nationally 92.5% of households have access to improved drinking water sources.
