Parts of SA shivering into the weekend as inclement, extreme weather continues

Heavy rains, strong winds and rare weather phenomena have wreaked havoc across the country over the past two weeks. Storms in the Western Cape more than a week ago led to uprooted trees, rockfalls, mudslides, rivers bursting their banks, and at least two deaths. WC residents warned of localized flooding

The South African Weather Service says significant rain is expected in the Overberg and Garden Route regions of the Western Cape tonight into tomorrow morning. The accumulated rainfall is likely to reach up to 50 millimetres. It says localised flooding can be expected on some roads, including low lying informal settlements. Residents have been urged to stay indoors and avoid crossing rivers and swollen streams. Source: SABC

Stormy weather in Cape Town has uprooted trees, damaged roofs and disrupted electricity in places, the city's Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell said on Sunday.
