Shack fire leaves hundreds of people destitute in Langa, Cape Town

Hundreds of people have been left homeless after a fire broke out in the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Langa on the Cape Flats on Saturday. Father charged with child abuse after throwing baby off roof

The Joe Slovo community is standing behind a 38-year-old man who flung his child off the roof of his home. The man appeared in the New Brighton magistrate's court on a case of child abuse. Community hall set alight in Joe Slovo

A community hall was torched and vehicles were stoned as authorities moved to rein in a protest on Monday night. The city’s safety and security director Richard Bosman confirmed a hall was set alight in the Joe Slovo/Phoenix area. Reports were also received of police and fire vehicles being stoned.
