Much anticipation as #SONA2016 is under way.

For the past hour we have seen politicians’, various dignitaries and VIP’s making their way up the Red carpet.

There is a big contingent of media, including international media at the red carpet.

A scuffle reportedly took place in Darling Street between; protesters wanting to enter the precinct, and the police, who dispersed protesters with stun grenades.

Invited guests of parliament include; parts of the Civil Guards of Honour that is inclusive of ordinary South Africans chosen to the attend the event, Junior Guards of Honour, that are nominated from schools around the country. The Eminent Persons are nominated by each provincial legislator, and are nominated on the basis of their contribution to society.

There is a procession in front of the national assembly, various Guards of Honour, and a band.

The media is now preparing to capture the arrival of President Jacob Zuma.

Much anticipation as guests and media await for proceedings to begin.
