The son of a 65-year-old Lenasia man detained in Egypt has confirmed that his father is expected to be released soon by the country’s authorities.
It’s understood that Sheikh Bassiouni was moved from the notorious Tora Prison, to a local police station.
He was arrested by national security at Cairo airport in 2014, with his son Bilal, after flying to Egypt for his daughter’s engagement.
Bilal was released, But his father remained at the Tora Prison, where numerous high-profile prisoners have been detained.
The community leader from Lenasia is accused of being part of the Muslim Brotherhood, a claim his family denies.
Bilal says after a long battle, his father is due to come home.
“There has been a court ruling yesterday that my father should be released. We are a bit skeptical and are unsure of the outcomes. As soon as my father is released and with our family, with my brother and everyone in Egypt, we will let everyone know.”EWN
