Team South Africa’s Paralympic swimmer, Kevin Paul, has powered his way to winning a gold medal in Rio de Janeiro.

The 25-year old won the 100-metre breast stroke event Thursday night.

It’s his second Paralympic gold medal after doing the same in Beijing eight years ago.

In London, four years ago, he had to settle for silver in his keynote event.

Paul says he is proud of his achievement.

He says: “We started things off with a bang for SA. We have a proud history and we saw the Olympians doing a great job for Team SA and I knew it the minute I saw the schedule come out about a year ago that this was a great opportunity for me, for the country, just to get on that medal tally early with a gold medal.”
