Western Cape Hawks boss Maj-Gen Yolisa Matakata has been appointed as the new deputy national head.

Matakata enlisted in the SA Police Service in 1995 and has held several crucial positions since, Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

She worked in crime intelligence for 15 years and was appointed head of the same division in the Western Cape in 2008.

In 2010, Matakata was appointed the head of the Hawks in the Western Cape.

National Hawks head Lt-Gen Mthandazo Ntlemeza congratulated Matakata on her appointment and said he was looking forward to working with her.

“I wish her the best of luck in her new appointment and I know she has what it takes to [make a] difference… and her presence will surely strengthen the team,” he said.

“Her 20 years’ experience in the service will come in very handy.” News24
