Police probing possible serial killer

The decomposing bodies of five women have been discovered close to the Century City and Akasia train stations in Cape Town over the last ten months, mayor Patricia de Lille said on Sunday.

“All the women were found naked, with their hands tied behind their backs. No arrests have been made thus far,” she said in a statement.

“The SA Police Service is still at an early stage in their investigation as they explore possible links to a serial killer,” she said.

De Lille offered a R50,000 reward to anyone who could assist police in arresting those behind the murders. Police confirmed the killings.

Lieutenant Andrè Traut said the latest body was found in a bushy area next to Century City railway station in Kensington on Friday. He could not immediately confirm that the murders were linked.

“During our investigation we will look at all possibilities as well as a link with other bodies found in the same area earlier this year, but we will not be able to come to premature conclusions regarding these multiple murders,” he said.

Traut said five bodies had been found, and not six as reported by de Lille. SAPA
