As schools and madaris close for summer holidays, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) will be hosting their 2nd Annual Unified Township Madrassa Graduation Ceremony on the 12th December. The event looks at awarding scholars for their effort throughout the year.

“The graduation ceremony consists of 14 different madaris, partaking in various activities, such as Quranic recital, poetry, as well as presenting what they’ve learnt. This enables better performance throughout the year as kids are motivated in working towards providing the community with their utmost best,” said MJC spokesperson Nabeweya Malick.

This special program is headed by the Deputy President of the MJC, Shaykh Riad Fataar whose mission and objective when being elected deputy was to strengthen social outreach and give support to the broader community. Following the success of last year’s event, Malick they hoped to again celebrate the achievements and learners in the community.

“The first event was a beautiful experience, seeing as it had been our very first. There was lots of excitement from the various madaris who received recognition for their hard work in the township areas. This is about teaching kids to read the Quran, producing graduates, and some of the kids even doing Hifz,” she said.

Malick said the MJC has maintained good relations with Muslim leaders and community workers in the township, but the graduation ceremony has built bridges and created even stronger relations with the ulama who empower kids in the townships.

“The MJC’s final goal in creating an initiative like this is to better the future of the youth, providing them with the necessary Islamic education and enhancing each individual’s lifestyle.”
