Gugulethu clinic temporarily closed after alleged robbers shot and killed

The City of Cape Town’s Gugulethu Clinic is temporarily closed after a fatal shooting.
Law Enforcement officers and South African Police Service are on scene. Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Zahid Badroodien, says the incident occurred during the attempted robbery of the company tarring the parking area of the facility. It is not yet clear whether the person who died was a client or employed by the contractor.
He says health staff have become the targets of hijackings, robbery and abuse. Badroodien says the latest shooting is in addition to the incidents that have already taken place at Weltevreden Valley Clinic, Crossroads 1 and Mzamomhle clinic.
“This office can confirm that two males in their twenties were fatally wounded earlier today  in NY 3, Gugulethu. The suspects held construction workers at gunpoint at a construction site, opposite the Gugulethu mall at about 10:00, demanding cash and mobile phones. One of the victims allegedly fired shots at the suspects with his licensed firearm, fatally wounded both.  Gugulethu police are investigating a business robbery and opened an inquest for further investigation. A firearm recovered on the scene  will be sent for ballistic testing,” said  Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi.
