The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) incident reporting team has confirmed that all GSF members are expected to be transported to Istanbul later this afternoon via Umm Al Rashrash Airport.
“While this information has been confirmed by multiple sources, the situation on the ground remains fluid and could change. The activists are expected to board three Turkish Airlines flights scheduled to depart from occupied Palestine between 14:50 and 15:10 Palestine time,” the GSF incident reporting team said.
Meanwhile, GSF South Africa said six South African delegates are being held without charge. They have been identified as Mogamed Faeek Afriedien, Hajar Kagiso Al Thaira Ahjum Mathee, former ambassador Faizel Moosa Qutb Hendricks, Ebrahim Peters, and Yusuf Rahman.
According to GSF South Africa, none of the detainees has been formally charged or granted access to legal representation.
“Consular services have not been provided, and families have not been formally informed of their whereabouts. At least 87 activists have begun a hunger strike in protest against their detention and in solidarity with more than 9,500 Palestinians currently held in Israeli prisons,” the organisation said.
