FeesMustFall leader back in court for bail

#FeesMustFall leader and former Wits University SRC president, Mcebo Dlamini is expected to apply for bail in the High Court sitting at the Palm Ridge magistrate’s court on Tuesday morning.

He was denied bail last month by the Johannesburg Magistrates Court. Dlamini was arrested at the University’s residence in Parktown.

The arrest came after a month of violent protests plagued the university.

Students also clashed with police on several occasions, resulting in several injuries and many more arrests.

After being denied bail by the Johannesburg Magistrates court last month, Dlamini will approach the High Court in another attempt to be released on bail. Magistrate Albertus Roux ruled that it is not in the interest of justice to grant Dlamini bail.

Roux said Dlamini what was submitted in his bail application is not convincing and has contradictory statements to those presented in evidence.

He also drew attention to pictures of Dlamini holding stones and wearing riot gear during the student protests at Wits University.
