Call for Woolies boycott

A full boycott of Woolworths has been called by the National Coalition for Palestine (NC4P), following its refusal to remove Israeli products from its stores.

According to the coalition, which consists of a number of Palestinian solidarity groups in South Africa, it was protesting the retailer’s “unwavering support for the Apartheid State of Israel.” The boycott would be effective from the 5th August, the start of the ever popular Woolworths ‘Quality Sale’.

“Proceeds from the sale of Israeli goods fund war crimes against Palestinians. NC4P calls on all South Africans to peacefully picket at all Woolworths chain stores nationwide,” the coalition said on Monday.

Last week, Woolworths confirmed it had not stopped stocking Israeli products at its stores, despite calls by pro-Palestinian activists. Its been reported that irate Jewish customers flooded Woolworths head office with queries, demanding to know whether the chain would accede to public pressure.

“Woolworths has no political affiliations. We respect our customers’ right to make individual purchasing choices, which is why we clearly label every product’s country of origin and fully comply with government guidelines on product from Israel,” said the company in a statement.

“Less than 0.1% of our food is sourced from Israel.”

On Sunday, activists in Johannesburg kickstarted the campaign by picketing outside the Centurion Woolworths.

  1. again, what is the daleel for economic sanctions? once more muslims are resorting to methods of the kuffaar to resolve issues facing their brethren. 0.1% of the food sourced from Israel – that’s one in a THOUSAND products. but you go guys! as long as you feel you’re doing something to help the Palestinians. Thanks for the heads-up on the sale though!

    1. NUR, Your comments are sickening.

The blood of women and children are on your hands if you support them.

  2. I’m all for boycotting products from a country you are against – but if they want to boycott Israel, then they must throw out their computers, which use Intel chips designed in Israel, throw out their cell phones, which use Israeli technology, refuse all sorts of life saving medication. Otherwise they are nothing but hypocrites and bullies.
