Video footage taken at Groote Schuur’s maternity ward is being studied after a 13-day-old baby was kidnapped from the Cape Town hospital. The little boy was asleep in his cot next to his mother’s bed when he was taken. A nurse woke up the mother at 2:45am to ask her where the baby was when they discovered the baby was gone.

“The baby slept next to her in its cot right next to her bed. Later the cot had no baby in it,” said Western Cape police spokesperson Fredrick Van Wyk.
Groote Schuur Hospital personnel searched for the infant but could not find it.

“They informed Woodstock Police Station and they assisted at F Block Ward at the hospital to search for the baby but it could not be found,” said Van Wyk.
Police investigations are continuing, however Van Wyk appealed to the community for their assistance.
