Preliminary investigation shows a firearm confiscated when an alleged gang hitman was arrested in Cape Town this week can be linked to several gang-related murders in the city, the directorate for priority crime investigation (Hawks) in the Western Cape said on Sunday..
“The Hawks have taken over investigations of an alleged 25-year-old hitman,” spokesman Captain Lloyd Ramovha said.
The man was arrested on Friday morning near Sea Point in Cape Town after SA Police Service members on patrol stopped and searched a suspicious vehicle driving recklessly, he said.
“During the search of the vehicle members managed to seize a loaded handgun. Preliminary investigations has linked the firearm to four recent gang-related murders around Ravensmead [in Cape Town].”
The man was expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm, Ramovha said.
