Minister Hlengwa Exposes Deep Issues at Road Accident Fund

Deputy Transport Minister Mkhuleko Hlengwa has revealed extensive corruption and mismanagement at the Road Accident Fund (RAF).

Speaking to Parliament’s Public Accounts Standing Committee, Hlengwa highlighted a substantial backlog of unpaid claims, critical staff vacancies, and procurement irregularities.

He also raised concerns about whistleblower reports implicating law firms and members of the judiciary in corrupt activities, stressing the need for transparency and accountability.

“There has been a lapse in public education on the due processes for claims. Many people receive correspondence stating that the RAF has paid their claims, but the funds never reach them because the payments are made through lawyers,” Hlengwa explained.

The deputy minister emphasized the importance of strengthening public awareness around RAF procedures to ensure claimants receive their rightful compensation.
